Perhaps there are more weekends in the north east, but the difference between the northeast and elsewhere isn't as great in weekends as in weeklys. Half the people were young crunchy Cantabrigian hippies, and half were older gentle Christian southerners.  LOTS of southern trad in contra, but I just don't think anyone who contra dances can be a Religious Right extremist.
