You would need a pretty recent phone, for the GPU processing power. As David said, latency would still be a problem.

There's another problem, which is that people don't hold their phone centered in front of them. If you make it look like the camera is in the middle of the screen, you haven't actually won, because people hold their phone below them, at an angle where the other person's head would never be.

Two cameras seems like the most likely minimum, but they would have to be at the top-middle and bottom-middle, and these are both premium spots with other functions (speakers, microphones, charging connectors) that want to be there.

Given these issues, I'd say we should be trying to solve it in laptops first, where the screen-to-camera distance is larger but there's more space, power, and processing available for extra cameras.", "timestamp": "1400350575"}, {"author": "Jeff Kaufman", "source_link": "https://www.facebook.com/jefftk/posts/659907438082?comment_id=659915631662", "anchor": "fb-659915631662", "service": "fb", "text": "@Jim: \"trying to solve it in laptops first, where the screen-to-camera distance is larger\"

What matters is the angle, not distance, and I think these are pretty similar for laptops and phones.", "timestamp": "1400351421"}, {"author": "Laura", "source_link": "https://www.facebook.com/jefftk/posts/659907438082?comment_id=659924888112", "anchor": "fb-659924888112", "service": "fb", "text": "Eye contact frequently makes me uncomfortable in real life. So then you get co-ordinates of where various significant points in the image are (eyes, tip of nose, corners of mouth) and so can adjust the image to simulate a different camera position.
