So, if I partner up with someone and I find out they're new to the dance - a few dances or this is their first - I'll grab a friend or someone I know who is friendly after our dance ends and ask them to dance with \"my (new) friend so-and-so who is new to [contra]\".
This works awesome, and it actually feels pretty good to have someone ask you on the other end to be the next partner-up. There's a huge part of swing culture that's about recruiting newcomers and welcoming people in. One of the major dances started having a volunteer position, around 10 or so years ago now, for several people per dance who would take a designated 30-60 min and only dance with people who were new or they didn't recognize and welcome them in. In exchange, the volunteers got in for free or reduced admission.
Then, it grew from there with people bringing friends and asking their friends/favorite partners to dance with them, and through discussions at parties we realized that dancing at least 2-3 dances per dance night with only newcomers was a way of investing into our community.
